A series of ceramic vessels inspired by the ancient Kizil-Koba culture, using wild materials.
My new project is based on the research of ancient archaic ceramics belonging to the archaeological culture of Kizil-Koba, that existed in Crimea in the 8th-3rd centuries BC. The ornaments on the vessels are unique and have not previously been seen in other ethnic groups.
At the early stage of history, several archaeological cultures coexisted, each leaving a distinct ceramic heritage.
Among them was the Kizil-Koba culture (8th–3rd centuries BC), known for its archaic molded vessels with geometric carvings and symbolic ornamentation reflecting the cult of water and the sun.
In my project, I draw inspiration from the symbols and forms of this ancient culture and create a series of ceramic vessels using clay sourced from areas where the Taurians once lived.
The vessels were fired for three days in a wood-fired Anagama kiln. Each piece has a natural layer of ash that formed on its surface, giving the surface an archaic, unique, and unrepeatable character.
