"VOLCANO" A Series of Ceramic Vessels
In this project I used materials from the volcanic island
Tenerife - wild clays, volcanic sand and magmatic rocks.
Tenerife is the largest island in the Canary Islands
archipelago, which was formed as a result of volcanic
underwater activity 100-50 million years ago.
Magma from the Earth's mantle, influenced by tectonic activity, rose along faults and cracks, and rapidly cooled upon contact with ocean water, forming pillow lavas.
After centuries-long ejections lava accumulated and about 7 million years ago the first mountain massifs began to rise above the surface of the ocean. In its present form the
island was formed about 3 million years ago.
Due to this geological structure, the relatively small area
of Tenerife has a wide variety of landscapes. I collected
rock samples in the volcanic deserts, forest gorges, black
sand beaches and at the foot of the volcano Teide.
It's of great value to me to study and share the ancient
geological processes of our planet and to give new life to
the oldest materials in my ceramic works.
