Accessibility Statement

Erklärung zur Barrierefreiheit

Last updated: 21.11.2025

Our Commitment to Accessibility

Keramikatelier Viktoriia Kurganskaia is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to as many people as possible, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that everyone should be able to explore our ceramic art, purchase products, and register for workshops regardless of their abilities.

Legal Framework

This Accessibility Statement is provided voluntarily as part of our commitment to inclusive design. As a small business (Kleinstunternehmen), we are currently exempt from mandatory requirements under the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz – BFSG). However, we voluntarily strive to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA wherever reasonably possible.

Current Accessibility Status

Our website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. We are continuously working to improve accessibility and remove barriers.

Known Accessibility Issues

We have identified the following accessibility limitations:

Visual Content:

  • Some images may lack complete alternative text descriptions

  • Color contrast ratios in certain design elements may not meet WCAG AA standards (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)

Navigation:

  • Some interactive elements may have limitations in keyboard-only navigation

  • Focus indicators may not be visible on all interactive elements

Documents:

  • PDF files or downloadable documents may not be fully accessible

  • Older documents may lack proper structure or alternative text

Forms:

  • Some form labels may not be properly associated with their input fields

  • Error messages may not always be clearly communicated to screen reader users

We are actively working to address these issues in our ongoing website improvements.

Measures We Are Taking

To improve accessibility, we are implementing the following steps:

Content & Design:

  • Using clear, simple language (Plain Language / Leichte Sprache principles where appropriate)

  • Ensuring proper heading structure (H1, H2, H3) for screen reader navigation

  • Adding meaningful alt-text to images of ceramic products and workshop activities

  • Improving color contrast ratios across the website

  • Ensuring text can be resized up to 200% without loss of functionality

Technical Improvements:

  • Testing with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS)

  • Ensuring full keyboard navigation support

  • Implementing ARIA labels where necessary

  • Regular accessibility reviews as we update content

  • Testing with various assistive technologies

Ongoing Commitment:

  • Regular accessibility audits

  • User feedback integration

  • Staff training on accessibility best practices

  • Color contrast analysis

  • Mobile device accessibility testing

Standards Reference:

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines

Assessment Date: 21.11.2025
Next Scheduled Review: 21.22.2026

We acknowledge that this is a self-assessment and we are working toward more comprehensive external accessibility audits in the future.

Exceptions and Limitations

Under BFSG, the following exceptions may apply:

Disproportionate Burden:
Where implementing full accessibility would impose a disproportionate burden on our small business, we commit to providing alternative means of access to the same information or functionality.

Third-Party Content:
Some embedded content from third-party services (payment processors, social media) may not be fully within our control. We select service providers with accessibility in mind wherever possible.

Legacy Content:
Older documents and archived content created before our accessibility commitment may not meet current standards. We are working to update or provide accessible alternatives for frequently accessed materials.

Continuous Improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. We regularly:

  • Monitor and test our website for accessibility issues

  • Update content and design to meet current standards

  • Train our team on accessibility best practices

  • Listen to user feedback and implement improvements
